Histoire

The Handcrafted Ethnic Instrument Making Course is a unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and musical art, designed to provide participants with an opportunity to dive into the process of making ethnic instruments and experience their rich cultural and historical significance.

Ethnic instruments, as cultural treasures of various regions, carry the traditions and emotions of their people. From China’s Guzheng, Erhu, and Dizi to India’s Tabla and Africa’s Hand Drums, each instrument has its own distinct craftsmanship and artistic charm. These instruments are not just carriers of music, but vital tools for passing down cultural heritage. By crafting these instruments by hand, participants gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of these traditional art forms.

The course is divided into several modules, beginning with a discussion of the cultural and historical background of the instruments, allowing participants to learn about the origins, development, and symbolic significance of each one. Afterward, participants can choose an instrument they are interested in to craft. Whether it’s the delicate Guzheng or the rhythmically captivating Tabla, participants will have the chance to work closely with skilled artisans throughout the entire process—from selecting materials, carving, painting, to tuning.

In addition to hands-on crafting, the course also includes basic ethnic music theory and playing techniques. Participants will learn how to adjust pitch and tone to make their handmade instruments produce the most melodious notes, enabling them to play simple pieces. By the end of the course, each participant will have a unique instrument they’ve made themselves, which they can proudly showcase.

The Handcrafted Ethnic Instrument Making Course is a one-of-a-kind cultural journey. Not only does it introduce participants to the charm of ethnic music, but it also gives them the opportunity to create an instrument that resonates with their soul. Every participant can experience the satisfaction and pride of creation and become a torchbearer for traditional culture.

Through this course, we hope to provide more people with an opportunity to understand and carry forward the tradition of ethnic instruments, helping them experience the perfect harmony of music and craftsmanship, and feel the profound appeal of ethnic cultures.
