In this noisy and rhythmic modern world, sound is often perceived as a mere background presence. We are accustomed to receiving it through our ears, overlooking its true depth and power. Sound is not only a channel through which we perceive the world, but also a profound medium for artistic creation that can evoke emotional resonance and inspire creativity. “Echoes of Sound” is a series of sound art installations that explore the materiality of sound and the boundaries of artistic expression, attempting to transcend the limits of auditory perception and create a multi-dimensional sensory experience.

As an intangible entity, sound constantly influences our emotions, behavior, and thoughts. It is an integral part of music, language, and the natural world, capable of sparking our imagination and emotional connections. However, when we encounter sound, we often perceive it only from an auditory perspective, neglecting its other dimensions. “Echoes of Sound” aims to address this gap by integrating sound with matter, exploring its materiality and morphology, and transforming sound from a mere auditory experience into a fusion of visual, tactile, and spatial perceptions.

The creative concept behind this project is to combine modern technology with traditional craftsmanship to demonstrate how sound resonates and interacts with different materials, generating entirely new forms of art. We will employ vibration devices, sensors, sound systems, and other technologies to convert sound waves and vibrations into material forms, causing materials such as sand, liquid, metal, and glass to deform and move, creating a visually stunning effect. For instance, in one piece, sound vibrations may cause metal wires to ripple, and as the sound waves change, their shapes will transform accordingly, allowing the audience to witness the materialization of sound. In another piece, the movement of liquid and sand will be visually altered by varying frequencies of sound, offering an immersive sensory experience for the audience.

Each installation will be triggered by sound waves, producing different light, shadow, and shape effects. Audiences will not only “hear” the sound, but also “see” its form and feel its texture. These works are not simply artistic presentations of sound; they are in-depth explorations of sound as a material entity, challenging the conventional understanding of sound and pushing the boundaries of how we perceive it. We hope that audiences, while experiencing the emotional resonance and impact of sound, will also interact with the pieces and appreciate the profound connection between sound and matter.
