This course will guide students through the history, techniques, and aesthetics of Moroccan woodworking, while providing hands-on experience in creating traditional Moroccan woodcraft. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills, students will learn the traditional tools and materials used in Moroccan woodworking, as well as techniques such as wood carving, inlay, coloring, and decoration. In the first part of the course, students will explore the origins and development of Moroccan woodworking, learning about common patterns such as geometric shapes, Arabesque motifs, and floral designs, along with their cultural significance. The course will introduce traditional tools, such as carving knives and saws, and students will learn the basics of woodworking, how to select and work with different types of wood, and how to design wooden pieces in various styles.

Wood carving is an essential aspect of Moroccan woodwork, and students will learn how to create detailed carvings and relief effects to bring their wooden pieces to life. In addition, Moroccan inlay work is another distinctive feature, and students will learn how to cut, join, and carve wood, finishing a traditional inlaid piece such as a tabletop, window, or door panel.

Color and decoration are central to Moroccan woodworking, and students will learn how to use natural dyes to color wood, mastering color combinations and decorative techniques to enhance the visual appeal of their pieces. The course also covers the use of gold and silver leaf to decorate wood, giving pieces a sophisticated and striking finish.
