The Traditional Lantern Making Workshop is an interactive and creative experience that combines traditional craftsmanship with festive culture. It offers you an opportunity to not only immerse yourself in the charm of Chinese traditional festival culture but also craft a beautiful lantern that symbolizes blessings and reunion.
Here, you will dive into the historical background and artistic styles of lanterns from various regions in China. Lanterns are an essential part of Chinese festival culture, especially during the Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival. They symbolize good luck, happiness, and family reunion. The workshop includes a lantern culture introduction, guiding participants through the origins of lanterns, regional lantern styles, and the rich cultural meanings behind each lantern.
In the workshop, you will create your own traditional paper lantern under the guidance of professional instructors. The process begins with constructing the lantern’s frame. You will learn how to select materials, cut and assemble a sturdy frame, followed by choosing the appropriate lantern paper and carefully attaching it. Participants will also learn traditional decorative skills such as paper-cutting, calligraphy, and painting to decorate their lanterns, adding artistic flair and festive atmosphere.
Additionally, each participant will have the chance to design a unique pattern for their lantern. You can choose from traditional designs like flowers, birds, and the auspicious “Fu” character, or create your own custom design inspired by festivals or personal meaning, such as red firecrackers or double happiness symbols.
